This unit equips current and aspiring ministry practitioners with an understanding of Christian ethical approaches and their application in faith and life. The unit introduces students to core theological sources for doing ethics, common ethical approaches, and Christology as a starting point for doing ethics. Students will examine Christian ethics in the contexts of the Christian community, the environment, human relationships, pastoral care, social ethics, and digital culture. Students will also reflect on the place of Christian hope in individual and community ethical decision-making and conduct. Beginning with a biblical perspective it posits humility as an essential starting point for spiritual development and focuses on practices and postures that enable growth in Christlikeness. It gives attention to holistic development, explores personal vocation, and offers tools for building individual and shared capacity for healthy life and ministry. Students will be able to reflect on their own history of formation, identify where they currently find themselves and plan intentionally for future growth.
