Remembering and Forgetting in Christian History

The past has the ability to inform and shape our future. In this unit, you will explore the history of Christianity, paying particular attention to the role that women have played, while discovering how events and people have been remembered, represented, and sometimes forgotten.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this unit, it is expected that students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understasnding of key themes and events in the history of the Christianity.
  • Assess the significance of particular people in the history of Christianity and the way they have been remembered or forgotten.
  • Identify and use the foundational tools of historical study.
  • Articulate the ways historical study informs faith and practice in the present.

Research Coordinator/Lecturer

Reverend Associate Professor Glen O'Brien has been on the College teaching staff since its formation. He is a Uniting Church minister in the Yarra Yarra Presbytery with a placement to full-time theological education in The Salvation Army. Glen is the Research Coordinator at Eva Burrows College, co-supervising doctoral students and lecturing in Christian History and Theology, specialising in Wesleyan studies. He has published widely on Wesleyan and Methodist themes, completing a full length monograph on John Wesley's political writings.

Mode of Delivery

This unit is delivered online with course materials available on ARK, the Learning Management System for all our higher education study. Login details for this unit will be accessible to students on confirmation of enrolment into an award or the unit.

Unit Costs

This undergraduate unit costs approx. $2,047, which is determined by the University of Divinity and reviewed annually. You could also study this unit as a non-award student (audit) at the cost of $500. Non-credit study is for students who wish to study a unit but not participate in formal assessments. Fees are consistent for domestic and international students. International students are charged a separate application fee of $300 (plus GST) upon enrolment. Students who meet eligibility criteria may be eligible for AUSTUDY and FEE-HELP assistance.
