January 30th through to February 5th was Orientation Week for our Cadets at EBC. We welcomed the “Champions of the Mission” session who join with the Defenders of Justice and Reflectors of Holiness in training to become Salvation Army officers.

We continue to take the prior experience and qualifications of cadets seriously and incorporate these into a holistic, three-fold approach to the process of training, integrating education and theology, mission and ministry and personal and spiritual formation. We are building on an individualised and flexible experience for each cadet in officer formation.
Across the week, the cadets engaged in a range of learning and development experiences. The Champions were briefed on what their individualised training programs will look like this year, and the on-going cadets set learning goals for the year, and were briefed on arrangements for their social/community and short term Corps placements for the year.
At the end of Orientation week, the cadets and Officer Formation Stream staff participated in a spiritual retreat in the city, spending time in reflection at the National Art Gallery, the botanic gardens and in the midst of Melbourne’s cityscapes.
