Short Courses

Eva Burrows College provides valuable learning through its non-accredited courses. The courses are delivered in response to The Salvation Army, community and industry needs. The courses meet high standards, are practical with ideal class sizes, and are delivered by trained and experienced professionals.

 

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training helps mobilise and empower adults in the workplace  and community by equipping them with the knowledge, skills and confidence to recognise,  understand and respond to another adult experiencing a mental health problem or mental  health crisis.

This short course is designed to teach you how to assist an adult who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence-based action plan.

Full payment of the course fee is required prior to enrolment.

Delivery Modes and 2026 Dates 

This 12-hour course is delivered in one of three ways: 

 

  1. Face-to-Face 

A two-day course led by a Licensed MHFA Instructor. This course provides an understanding of the signs and symptoms of common and disabling mental health problems in adults and how to provide initial help.

 2. Blended 


Self-paced eLearning (5-7 hours), followed by two Zoom sessions (2.5 hours per day) led by a Licensed MHFA Instructor.  

  • Component One: A self-paced e-learning component which takes 5-7 hours to complete. This component must be completed no longer than 3 months prior to Component Two dates. 
  • Component Two: 2 x Zoom sessions (2.5 hours per day), led by a Licensed MHFA Instructor. 

 Note: Each participant is required to complete the eLearning program prior to attending the Zoom sessions.

 3. Refresher 

Refresher courses are available for individuals that have completed a full two-day Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) face-to-face course or a Blended Online Mental Health First Aid course, followed by the completion of an accreditation assessment within the last 3 years. 

 This course enables accredited Mental Health First Aiders to revise their knowledge and skills, and to extend their accreditation for a further 3 years.
