    This unit is running as an online intensive.

    5 to 16 February 2024

    As this is an intensive unit, it is expected that students will be released from usual work activities to study fulltime for this fortnight.

    Students are expected to participate in all teaching and seminar sessions: 

    • Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays – 9.15am-2.30pm AEDT/AEST
    • Wednesdays, Fridays – 9.15am-12.30pm AEDT/AEST

    No prerequisites required.

    Please note:  This is a new EBC unit which contains similar content to the Introduction to Pastoral Theology and Ministry unit.

  • Learning Activities

    This unit is designed around a set text that provides a core of weekly readings. There will be supplementary readings as appropriate as well as videos and YouTube clips. You will also engage in online sessions enabling peer to peer discussion which will be guided by your lecturer. This unit will help you to develop and demonstrate your skills.

    *This unit is offered at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level. Students may engage with people across both levels when this unit is delivered.

  • Assessments

    1 x 1,500 word Essay - 25%

    1 x 2,000 word Essay - 33%

    1 x 2,500 word Summative Reflection - 42%

  • Learning Outcomes

    Upon successful completion of this unit, it is expected that students will be able to:

    1. Articulate the biblical and theological foundations for pastoral ministry.

    2. Assess the place of pastoral care within the overall ministry of the church.

    3. Demonstrate and evaluate effective helping skills for pastoral ministry and pastoral care.

    4. Reflect theologically and personally on all understanding of self and others.

    5. Critically evaluate approaches to pastoral care to aid implementation of a model within a local ministry setting.
