Catherine Booth was the co-founder of The Salvation Army. In this unit, you will be able to explore Catherine’s theology and understand how this has shaped The Salvation Army we have today. You will explore her approach to Scripture, salvation and holiness, the church, ministry, and the sacraments, and discover her teaching on the role of women in the church.

This unit is running as an online intensive.
11 to 21 June 2024
Students are expected to attend the following discussion and seminar sessions, which have been scheduled for:
- 11.00 am - 12.15 pm AEST each day of the intensive AND
- 1.00 pm - 3.00 pm AEST on Tuesday 18 June, Wednesday 19 June and Thursday 20 June for student presentations and seminar papers.
The unit has been designed in such a way that you can successfully navigate the required content and complete some of the assessment tasks during the two weeks.
Students are advised to take study leave from other responsibilities for the period of the intensive to enable your full participation in the unit and your own success with the study.

Upon successful completion of this unit, it is expected that students will be able to:
1. Locate Catherine Booth's significance as a church leader and theologian within her nineteenth-century context.
2. Identify Catherine Booth's core theological ideas and evaluate the major historical influences upon their development.
3. Survey the impact of Catherine Booth's theological insights on The Salvation Army's theological and practice.
4. Evaluate the place of Catherine Booth in the received historiography of The Salvation Army.
