Glossary
ARK is the Moodle-based Learning Management System (LMS) used by the University of Divinity. All learning materials and assessments are to be delivered via ARK. |

ARKLO |
ARK Liaison Officer. Each College under UD has an ARKLO who is the usual point of contact between the College and the University for technical issues, and who can provide support in using ARK. Eva Burrows College’s ARKLO (from 2023) is Bronwyn Lapham. |
Assessment unit/Child unit
|
The unit in ARK where assessments are described, and where students upload their submissions. Lecturers access student submissions from here when grading. There is an Assessment unit for each level of study in each Content unit. |
Content unit/Meta unit |
The module in ARK where all learning materials for the Unit are collated. Consistency across Content units is key; there is a template that defines the structure of each Content unit. Please request this of the ARKLO when developing your Content unit. |
Course |
A Course is a qualification being studied for. It is made up of a set number of Units, each of which has one Content/Meta unit plus one Assessment/Child unit for each level of study. |

MOA |
Moderation of Assessments. This is a quality process where assessment tasks are reviewed before a unit is delivered to ensure that they are meeting learning outcomes and that the assessment instruments adequately reflect the required scope and rigour for each unit. |

Turnitin |
Turnitin is an online service that compares essay-type assessment submissions with a database to assist with identifying potential plagiarism. Turnitin also has an evolving system of identifying essay material that may have been created using generative AI (e.g. ChatGPT). |

Derived from a ‘unit record,’ the ‘unit’ houses the teaching, learning and assessment materials (content) prepared by lecturers and with which students engage. |
Unit Guide

The Unit Guide is generated directly from information held in the UMS (Unit Management System). The Unit Guide contains assessment information including description, weight, word count, due dates. |
Unit Record |
The approved unit record is also located in the UMS and is the ‘source of truth’ for the Unit. It describes the Unit: Content, Learning Outcomes, Assessments, Indicative Bibliography |
