    You are invited to explore prophecy in the books of Amos, Hosea, and Isaiah in this unit. Learn how to engage with the themes of the prophets, particularly looking at social justice and institutional reform. You will also be equipped to discern how these prophetic voices inform how we engage in the concerns of our world today.

  • Learning Outcomes

    Upon successful completion of this unit, it is expected that students will be able to:

    1. Appraise the extent to which historical, political and social frameworks contribute to the formulation of the message of the eighth-century prophets.

    2. Evaluate the impact of the major theological themes arising within the relevant prophetic materials.

    3. Exegete and interpret selected texts, referencing methodological considerations.

    4. Compare and contrast selected prophets' responses to the religious and sociao-cultural contexts of eighth-century Israel.

    5. Evaluate the contemporary mandate to social action with respect to the message of the eighth century prophets.
