Explore the life of and life with the Triune God

2 February 2021

Reverend Associate Professor Dr Frank ReesWe recently asked Reverend Associate Professor Dr Frank Rees about his online unit ‘The Triune God’ which he will be teaching in Semester 1, from 22 February – 28 May 2021.

Here is what he had to say about this unit and why he is so passionate about its content.

What will be covered in The Triune God Higher Education unit?

This unit is about the biblical, Christian understanding of God as a community of persons, traditionally called Father, Son and Spirit, who invite us into that same life in community.

So, it is about the nature and potential of Christian life in and with God. It will cover the new and diverse enthusiasm for Trinitarian theology and its applications in areas of liberation and worship and church community.

Why do you think the subject matter in this unit is important for people to know?

Far from a stuffy or irrelevant idea, which many people think is impossible to understand, this unit leads us to see that the idea and experience of God as Trinity is creative, inviting, and life-giving—filled with all the potential of life made known to us in Jesus Christ.

Who do you think this unit would best suit?

Every person wanting to live into the fullest potential of God’s creation, as a human being, and especially as a Christian. This unit is for us all.

What excites you about teaching this unit?

I am always excited when I see people’s faith ‘come alive’ for them: when they find depth of meaning, truth, love and hope in God and in the world with and because of God.

How has the content of this unit formed your beliefs/experiences?

I have been teaching in this area for some years and continue to believe that this is the most important aspect of our life and faith, which has enriched and challenged me in so many ways. Thanks be to God!

The Triune God unit will examine the contemporary resurgence of interest in the doctrine of the Trinity through exposure to representative theologians such as Catherine LaCugna, Jürgen Moltmann and Paul Fiddes, in the field of Trinitarian theology, both classical and contemporary.

If you are considering studying this unit as part of a Higher Education Award or simply would like to audit it for personal growth, please contact the Registrar, Norman Aquino before Friday 12 February 2021 to find out how best to enrol.
