Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this unit, it is expected that students will be able to:

  • Articulate biblical and theological foundations for pastoral ministry.
  • Assess the place of pastoral care within the overall ministry of the church.
  • Demonstrate and evaluate effective helping skills for pastoral ministry and pastoral care.
  • Reflect theologically and personally on an understanding of self and others.

Lecturer

Auxiliary Lieutenant Dr Catherine Philpot

 

Auxiliary Lieutenant Dr Catherine Philpot has developed skills as a psychologist, with a PHD and post-doctoral research fellowship considering processes that contribute to the development of peace between groups with histories of conflict. A desire to examine the intersection between faith and wellbeing in more depth led at a later stage to the completion of a Masters of Theological Studies.

Rex Rigby

 

Reverend Dr Rex Rigby is an Indigenous Australian – from the Bigambul clan in central southwest Queensland. The first indigenous national head of a denomination in Australia. He has served for twelve years as the National Superintendent of the Wesleyan Methodist Church of Australia, fourteen years as a District Superintendent, and over 17 years as a local church pastor. Rex has been awarded the title of National Superintendent Emeritus.

Mode of Delivery

This unit is delivered online with course materials on ARK, the Learning Management System for all our higher education study. Login details for this unit will be accessible to students on confirmation of enrolment into an award or the unit.

Unit Costs

This undergraduate unit costs approx. $2,184 which is determined by the University of Divinity and reviewed annually. You could also study this unit as a non-award student (audit) at the cost of $550. Non-credit study is for students who wish to study a unit but not participate in formal assessments. Fees are consistent for domestic and international students. International students are charged a separate application fee of $300 (plus GST) upon enrolment. Students who meet eligibility criteria may be eligible for AUSTUDY and FEE-HELP assistance.
