    This unit will give you a framework for pastoral theology and ministry to older people. You will explore Biblical and theological perspectives on ageing as well as the faith journey. You will learn about the methods and benefits of spiritual assessment. You will have an opportunity to reflect on the challenges, risks and ongoing potential within longer living and the relevance of life review.

    Four sessions via Zoom. The first Zoom session will be organised for Tuesday 7 March 2023 at 7.30 pm AEDT. Other dates/times will be decided at the first session. 

    We recommend that you allocate 12 hours a week for all study activities.

    Pre-requisite 24 points in DP or equivalent practical experience.

    Lectures, discussions, practical exercises, videos, online forums

    Participation activities include weekly exercises and readings via ARK, the learning management system.

    *This unit is offered at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level. Students may engage with people across both levels when this unit is delivered.

  • Assessments

    1 x Essay 2,000 words - 30%

    1 x Integrative essay 2,000 words - 30%

    1 x Case study 3,000 words - 40%

  • Learning Outcomes

    Upon successful completion of this unit, it is expected that students will be able to:

    1. Research and discuss the diverse context of ageing in Australia.

    2. Investigate the challenges and risks in ageing and how life review is relevant.

    3. Critically analyse theological perspectives on ageing.

    4. Review spiritual needs in ageing and apply different methods of assessment and planning.

    5. Integrate understanding of potential for ongoing achievement as well as opportunity for faith development with longer liviing.

    6. Develop a strategy for the place and role of the older person in their faith community.
