Reflective Practice for Vocational Formation will introduce you to an action-reflection model of learning that you can apply while you are engaged in a ministry placement. You will have the opportunity to reflect on your ministry experiences and discover more about the skills required for ministry, while also exploring your values and vocational identity.

This is a practicum unit. Students are expected to attend all teaching sessions, which have been scheduled for:
Required synchronous class engagement:
- 28 July 2025 (2pm-4pm AEST)
- 27 October 2025 (2pm-4pm AEDT)
Required synchronous workshop/peer group engagement:
- Seven 2-hour sessions (Mondays 2pm-4pm) – session timings may be revised in consultation with class members at the commencement of the semester.
Required attendance for oral presentation assessment tasks:
- Sessions as required (Mondays 2pm-4pm) – session timings to be negotiated with class members during semester.
Students are required to attend six 1-hour individual pastoral supervision sessions – dates to be determined in consultation with pastoral supervisor at the commencement of the semester.
Students must complete a log of placement hours/activities.

Please indicate to the Registrar before 23 June 2025 if you would like to take Reflective Practice for Vocational Formation. An interview will be organised with the lecturer before you can enrol.
Enrolment in this unit is dependent upon:
- Being interviewed by the STFE Coordinator;
- Having an approved ministry placement; and
- Meeting relevant safeguarding requirements.
- Learning Activities
Learning is achieved through action-reflection on assigned placement experiences and observations, as well as individual supervision.
200 engagement hours is made up of 144 hours placement, 6 hours individual supervision, 18 hours peer group/workshops/seminars, 12 hours planning/preparation, 20 hours reading and assessment tasks.
Teaching sessions to support the practicum nature of this unit will be delivered online with links provided in ARK.
*This unit is offered at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level. Students may engage with people across both levels when this unit is delivered.

- Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this unit, it is expected that students will be able to:
1. Critically reflect theologically on ministry practice and ministry contexts.
2. Demonstrate intentionality in ministry by developing, working towards and evaluating achievement of goals for ministry practice, set within a ministry context.
3. Critically reflect on the contributions from the ministry context and pastoral supervision to personal and vocational identity formation.
4. Document evidence of learning about self and ministry arising from the ministry context.
5. Integrate theological reading into reflection on the ministry context.
6. Demonstrate an integrated understanding of child safeguarding and professional ministry standards.
